Online graduate degree program are especially popular because of their convenience and since the degree is usually meant to prepare someone for more advanced, leadership and management roles. But is a graduate degree worth the extra years of studying and education -- especially when you could be spending that time working?
At first glance, the numbers indicate that the answer is a definite yes. A recent survey of accounting/financial workers of varying skill and seniority levels found that Chief Financials Officers that did not possess a graduate degree on average earned a salary of $37,915, those with a Bachelors Degree earned $89,232, and CFOs with a graduate degree earned up to $103,324. The return on investment for a graduate degree certainly seems worthwhile.
An Online Graduate Degree - Still A Good Idea?
The evidence is still very compelling. Statistics from the Graduate Management Admissions Council (the folks who administer the GMAT and other important tests) indicate that in many cases someone's pre- and post-graduate salaries can increase over 50%. For example, someone working in marketing making an average of $42,000 before returning to school to earn their graduate degree can make an average of $85,000 after receiving their graduate degree. That's nearly doubling your money!
An online graduate degree may not be equivalent to winning the lottery, but the chance is good that your salary will increase after earning your degree -- making the time it take to earn a graduate degree very worthwhile.
